16th ranked Rainbow Wahine earn Mercy Rule victory over UC-Riverside

The 16th ranked University of Hawaii Softball team (29-7, 7-0 BWC) opened a three game Big West Conference series Friday night with a 16-0 victory over UC-Riverside (15-21, 0-6 BWC).

Rainbow Wahine scored 8 runs in the first inning, jump-started by Kayla Wartner’s solo homerun. She would finish 3-3 with 2 RBI.

Leisha Li’ili’i went 2-4 with a homerun and 4 RBI, as Jasmine Zamora drove in three runs of her own.

Kaia Parnaby (26-3) struck out 9 Highlanders, allowing just 5 hits in 5 innings of work.

The victory gave Head Coach Bob Coolen his 899th career win. He can reach the 900 milestone as early as Saturday, as UH will host UCR in a series ending double-header starting at 2:00pm.
