Hawaii Island police have charged a 21-year-old Pepe’ekeo woman in connection with an escape from a Hilo correctional facility.
After conferring with prosecutors, detectives charged Shaylyn Momi Araw on Sunday with second-degree escape.
Her bail was set at $10,000. She is scheduled to make her initial court appearance Monday afternoon.
At 7:35 a.m. Sunday, police responded to the Hale Nani facility located off Route 11 after receiving a report from correctional officers that Araw had scaled a fence and fled on foot.
Araw was being held at Hale Nani for various property crimes.
Police located Araw in the upper Wainaku area and arrested her just before 4 p.m.
