HONOLULU (AP) – Federal officials say a lighthouse in Kauai will be renamed for late U.S. Sen. Daniel Inouye next month.

Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced the change on Tuesday for Kilauea Point Lighthouse. A formal ceremony on May 4 will dedicate the lighthouse as the Daniel K. Inouye Point Lighthouse.

The lighthouse is in honor of Inouye’s support for the Kilauea Point National Refuge and other conservation efforts in Hawaii.

Inouye died in December after spending 49 years in the U.S. Senate. He was 88.
