It’s been a rainy weekend at least for many of the people on Kauai and Oahu.
Thankfully there was no flash flooding and the rains weren’t as heavy as they could’ve been.
Most places got less than two inches of rain.
It was one of those days where people were thankful they brought along an umbrella.
This is what many folks on Oahu saw on Sunday showers off and on.
“This system really had the potential to dump some heavy rain and we were fortunate enough to not see that rain materialize,” shared Derek Wroe, National Weather Service. “What we’re seeing instead is some moderate rain that we really need.”
After all April showers bring May flowers, right?
“It turned out to be some beneficial rainfall from a farming standpoint,” said Wroe. “Forecasters say the thunder, lightning, hail and heavy rain for the most part stayed off shore.”Luckily those storms for the most part missed the islands. So we dodged a bullet there.”
The storm brought showers to Kauai on Saturday then to Oahu Saturday night and into Sunday.
“This has been a tricky weather system. It came in and we had some flash flood watches for Kauai and Oahu,” said Wroe. “There was no flash flooding which is the good news.”
The weather however did affect some weekend plans.
And reportedly caused this helicopter to make an emergency landing at Ala Moana Beach Park!
That was just after 5 p.m. And the chopper took off about a half hour later.
No one was injured.
“What’s interesting about this system is it’s quite late in the year to see this continuous systems dropping in,” said Wroe. “We had one last week, we had one this week, and looking for the potential there could be something next weekend, early next week we’ll have to keep our eye on but for now, once the trades fill in here during the middle of this week. They should stick around for at least the first half of next weekend.”
If you’re on Kauai, you might want to bring along an umbrella on Monday because forecasters say there might be some heavy showers.
And for the rest of the state expect it to be muggy and hazy but still a good idea to take along an umbrella just in case.
