No tsunami threat for Hawaii after 6.8 magnitude quake near New Guinea

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says there is no tsunami threat for Hawaii following a 6.8 magnitude earthquake near the north coast of New Guinea.

The quake happened at 12:55 p.m. (HST) Tuesday.

The PTWC says based on all available data, a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected.

Again, there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii.
