No tsunami threat for Hawaii after 7.2 magnitude quake near Japan

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says there is no tsunami threat for Hawaii after a powerful earthquake was reported near northern Japan.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the 7.2-magnitude quake struck at 5:05 p.m. (HST).

The PTWC says based on all available data, a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat for Hawaii.
