For decades now, the windward side has held a big party in April – it’s the annual “I LOVE KAILUA” bash.
As usual, Castle Medical Center will play a big role in the gathering.
The party is being put on by the Lanikai Outdoor Circle and the funds raised go toward keeping Kailua green and beautiful, according to the sponsors. Castle Medical Center in recent years has been an eager participant.
“Every year we offer a mini health fair, with screenings and activities for the whole family,” says Castle Medical Center’s Helene Waihee.
Many of these are the same kinds of screenings you might get right here at the hospital.
“We have this year, cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure screening, vision screening and skin cancer screening as well,” says Waihee. “New this year, we have our Facebook photo booth where you can come and get your photo taken and it gets immediately posted to the web.”
And like last year, Castle will also have something for the youngsters.
“We’re also offering the free bike helmets again for kids. When they come in and get fitted they also get a free bike helmet as long as the supplies last,” Waihee says.
And the price is right.
“The whole thing is completely free. In fact, we’re going to be giving away a lot of different things. It’s our 50th anniversary, so we’ll have some free giveaways at our information booth. But do come early because those will probably run out pretty quickly,” says Castle Medical Center’s Chris Simons.
Once again, the I LOVE KAILUA party happens in the center of town this Sunday.
