City moves property from sidewalk

4-24 OCCUPY

City crews were called out to the front of the Blaisdell Wednesday afternoon to remove some items from the sidewalk.

Some people apparently set up their belongings there, but because some of it was spilling out into the path of the bus, it posed a danger to bus riders and bus drivers.

“The tents were right on the sidewalk. So the buses they have to kind of push the front of bus over the sidewalk in order to get in properly and not block King Street. So they weren’t able to do that,” City spokesperson Jesse Broder Van Dyke said.

The City’s Stored Property Ordinance authorizes the City to remove immediately stored personal property that interferes with the safe or orderly management of City property or poses a threat to the health, safety, or welfare of the public.

The property will be stored at the City’s Halawa Corp Yard.
