A 56-year-old man is dead following an industrial accident in the Puna district Thursday morning.
Big Island Police and Fire Department medics responded to a job site off Route 11 near North Kulani Road just after 9 a.m.
Responding officers discovered that the 56-year-old man was inspecting the electrical system for a newly installed water tank when he apparently was electrocuted from the energized system.
A 51-year-old Honoka’a man, who was working nearby, attempted to assist the victim. He was able to de-energize the electrical system, but not before sustaining minor injuries from exposure to electrical current.
The victim was taken to Hilo Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The victim’s identity has not been released at this time.
An autopsy is scheduled for Friday to determine the exact cause of death.
