Many local residents spent Thursday afternoon eagerly watching the NFL draft.

Although it didn’t end the way they had hoped, they remain positive.

The people we talked to say first round pick or not, Manti Te’o still has the potential to have a great NFL career.

Football fans waited and waited to hear Teo’s name. After three hours of breathlessly watching, it came down to this.

“Oh!,” fans moaned when the last pick was announced.

Shock and disbelief at Champions Sports Bar and Grill.

“I feel badly for him but he’s going to come through,” Honolulu resident Ron Jeffrey said.

“It’s too bad Manti didn’t get drafted,” Honolulu resident Nathan Jeffrey said.

“Kinda disappointed for him, nice to see a Hawaii guy do good,” football fan Nolan Uehara said.

There were several moments people thought they would hear the linebacker’s name.

“Well I thought Chicago,” Ron Jeffrey said.

“I thought Minnesota was going to get Manti Te’o when they traded all those picks for him,” Uehara said.

Even though he’s not a first round pick fans believe the draft isn’t an exact science.

“I thought he would go in the first round but i was surprised by a lot of the teams’ picks this year,” Nathan Jeffrey said.

“Joe Montana was a fifth round or third round draft and he ended up winning four Superbowls so Manti will probably do the same thing,” Ron Jeffrey said.

Fans watched all across the state including his hometown.

“I think he could’ve gone first round, but after all that’s happened, it really took his chances down,” fan Paul Smith said.

They have high hopes for the second round and support the Laie native, no matter what.

“Good luck tomorrow Manti,” Nathan Jeffrey said.

“He’s a great player, he’s going to be a great asset to some team,” Smith said.

“Keep your chin up Manti. You’re going to make it,” Ron Jeffrey said.
