A man nearly drowned Sunday morning off a popular Kalihi trail.
Bystanders pulled the 26-year-old man from the pool below the waterfalls at the area known as “Ice Ponds” at about 8:20 a.m.
According to the Honolulu Fire Department, the man hit the side of the falls after either jumping or falling and was underwater for some time.
The victim was air-lifted from the trail and was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
Part of the Likelike Highway was closed while crews brought the man off the trail.
