Was it an earthquake or an explosion?
That’s what many Maui residents were asking Monday night when they felt the ground shake and heard a loud boom.
The Maui Police Department says just after midnight, a device was blown up by an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit.
A worker found the two-foot cylindrical ordnance in the Puunene sugar cane field Monday morning.
After review, it was revealed that the ordnance posed no immediate danger due to the lack of structures in the vicinity.
Officials do not know where it came from or how old it was, but they say military training was conducted in that area during World War II.
