BYU-Hawaii reaches NCAA II Women’s Tennis National Championship match

SURPRISE, Ariz. – Third-ranked BYU-Hawaii used a pair of doubles victories and wins at first, second and third singles to defeat fifth-ranked Abilene Christian 5-2 and advance to the NCAA Division II National Championship.

The Seasiders will face Armstrong on Saturday in the NCAA Division II National Championship at Noon MST at the Surprise Racquet & Tennis Complex in Surprise, Ariz.

Annie Hwang and Sherry Liu were double winners in the contest, teaming up for an 8-6 first doubles win before Hwang collected first singles 6-1, 6-0 and Liu grabbed second singles 6-2, 6-1.

Marika Kobayashi and Mariette Tuionetoa earned an 8-4 victory at second doubles, while Kobayashi took third singles 6-4, 6-4.

The Seasiders are now 30-1 on the season with their line loss coming against HPU. Abilene Christian ends the year 28-6.

Fellow Pacific West Conference member, Hawaii Pacific lost to Armstrong, 5-2 in the other Semi-Final.
