HPD holding memorial service for fallen officers

The Honolulu Police Department is commemorating those lost in the line of duty during National Police Week.

At 6 p.m. Monday, HPD officers and families of fallen officers will walk from the Alapai Headquarters to the State Capitol, where a memorial service to honor the fallen officers will be held.

The candlelight vigil and memorial service will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Rotunda.

Three lanes of Beretania Street will be blocked off starting at 5 p.m.

Since 1903, 45 HPD officers have been killed in the line of duty. Their names are listed on the HPD Roll of Honor.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating the week of May 15 as National Police Week.
