There is so much that she does on Wake Up 2day, from weather forecasts to reporting in the field.

But the excitement doesn't end when Kanoe Gibson is finished at KHON2. The former Miss Hawaii balances being a great mom with a second career.

She's the youngest of three sisters.

This future Miss Hawaii winner says she always felt blessed to have her siblings looking out for her.

So what was she like when she was younger?

"Oh gosh do we have enough time? Very energetic, and she was always into things. She liked to clean and she loved tearing things apart and she was lika little chemist or scientist," said her oldest sister Mokihana Quirouet.

"We fought a lot when we were little. There is a three-and-a-half year age difference, so we did a lot of fighting. I was always trying to be the big sister and boss her around and stuff," said sister Maila Gibson-Bandmann.

Kanoe took the chance to defend herself and said, I'm the youngest one, and I was always considered the brat. They always told me how nerdy I was, so I always thought I was an ugly duckling."

After high school Kanoe's "nerdy" ways continued as she attended University of Hawaii while balancing her job as a Hawaiian Airlines flight attendant. She flew with her sister Moki, who still couldn't believe her kids sis was now flying around the world with her.

But while at U.H., Kanoe took off her glasses and in typical "Gibson fashion," decided to do something she never dreamed of doing-- running for Miss Hawaii.

"Miss Hawaii, for example, she never competed before and went from this brainy nerd to this beauty queen over night, and it's because she put her mind to it and did the work," said Maila.

After winning Miss Hawaii, Kanoe won the talent contest at the Miss America competition. She was also the first runner-up, which means she was only a few votes away from being Miss America.

But with all she has done and yet to do, she is most proud of being a mom.

"For me, life just started when I had my son. I feel like I knew everything about life, but when I had him, now it's like everything makes sense," said Kanoe.

With her son, only two years old, there has been a lot of change in Kanoe's life since joining Wake Up 2day.

So how does she keep it all under control?

Besides her son, two things-- music and faith.

"The faith and knowing that God is in control, it helps Kanoe to keep going," said Maila. "There are days where she is a mom, she's on the news, she's waking up at 1:30 in the morning, she's balancing a music career because she sings still a few nights a week. We all look at her and say, 'How does she do it?'"

Kanoe sings at church but if you are lucky, you may catch her around town a few nights a week, sharing her passion with locals and visitors.

"The reason why I still sing is that I discovered that singing is a passion and my gift is speaking and writing, so I feel like if I don't use the passion, I will die inside," said Kanoe.
