The Pueo could soon take flight. University of Hawaii West Oahu chancellor Rockne Freitas announced Thursday that he intends to submit letters of interest to both the NCAA and Pacific West Conference in hopes of starting a Division 2 athletics program.

Freitas, who took over on May 1, said there’s typically a three-year process toward Division 2 membership, and that West Oahu would hope to compete with Pac-West members UH Hilo, Hawaii Pacific, Chaminade, and BYU Hawaii.

The commissioner of the Pac-West, is Bob Hogue, who told KHON2 how interested the PWC would be in adding the Pueo to the conference.
