The high surf may be fun for surfers, but it’s been a pain for boaters.

The big waves near Mala Wharf in Lahaina capsized three sailboats after they broke free from their moorings.

The Maui Fire Department says no one was on board at the time.

The state Department of Land and Natural Resources is working with a salvage company to remove them from the water.
