Developer plans to construct affordable housing tower across from Ward Theaters

Ward development

Monday we showed you where the first of three new high-rises will be built in Kakaako.

Tuesday we learned where the other two are going.

This parking lot across from the Ward movie theaters is usually packed with vehicles, but by next year it’s 160 parking stalls will be gone.

The Howard Hughes Corporation is planning to build an apartment building there.

Tuesday, Governor Abercrombie praised the developer for creating more “work force” or affordable housing.

“Today’s generation is able to raise their families, is able to work in this community and is able to have the kind of housing that is not reserved for those who have only a high income or those perhaps who are here as part-time residents,” says Governor Neil Abercrombie.

The other high-rise will go up on the current site of the Pier 1 store.

And here’s a rendering of the high-rise we told you about Monday. It’s on Ward Avenue across from Sports Authority.
