Man charged in Big Island homicide

Big Island Police have charged a 43-year-old Puna man in connection with a fatal shooting.

The incident happened Monday in the Nanawale Estates subdivision.

Police charged Seon Keoni Aki on Wednesday with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and first-degree terroristic threatening.

On Wednesday, an autopsy determined that the victim, 40-year-old Mateo D. Balinbin, Jr., died from an injury to the brain from a gunshot wound.

The death was ruled as a homicide.

Aki is being held at the Hilo police cellblock on $370,000 bail.

His initial court appearance is scheduled for Thursday.
