A retired detective for the Los Angeles Police Department was sentenced Thursday to 20 years in prison for killing his wife on the Big Island.
Dan DeJarnette was arrested in 2006 for beating his wife to death near their Ka’u home. He was later released.
After additional DNA testing, DeJarnette was arrested again in May 2012.
In a deal with prosecutors, DeJarnette avoided life in prison by pleading guilty to manslaughter.
