As Memorial Day weekend approaches, the Department of Land and Natural Resources is reminding the public about the alcohol ban at the Kaneohe Bay sandbar.

Anyone caught with alcohol within the sandbar safety zone during the three-day weekend could be fined up to $1,000.

The safety zone took effect last Fourth of July.

The alcohol ban is enforced during holidays that fall on three-day weekends.
