The Honolulu Fire Department responded to a house fire in Kaneohe Friday morning.
The fire broke shortly after 9 a.m. on Aeloa Street.
“Witnesses reported that the fire appeared to have started in the rear bedroom and spread rapidly” HFD Capt. Seelig said.
Capt. Seelig says one of the residents attempted to use a garden hose to control the flames, but the fire was too large for that to be affective.
Four adults and five children live in the home. Capt. Seelig says all of the adults and three of the children were home when the fire started and all of them managed to escape.
Two residents, a male in his late 30s and a woman in her late 50s, were taken to the hospital in serious condition.
Two pets were also home at the time of the fire. One was rescued by a firefighter and brought out safely. The other pet was already outside.
The fire was under control just before 9:30 a.m.
Damage is estimated at $375,000.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
