A former Alaska man accused of killing his girlfriend on Kauai could face life in prison without the possibility of parole.
A Kauai grand jury returned an indictment against 26-year-old Steven Wilson for second-degree murder in the stabbing death of 21-year-old Kendra Lewis.
Lewis’ body was found in her Kapaa condominium on April 26, but officials say she had been dead for several days.
The grand jury also found that Wilson is subject to enhanced sentencing where the murder was “especially heinous, atrocious, or cruel, manifesting exceptional depravity.” The finding enables the state to seek a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Wilson is being held on $1 million bail and is awaiting a preliminary hearing.
