If you’re planning to spend Memorial Day weekend at the beach or on the ocean, keep an eye out for a large blue container.
The state needs help finding it. It’s about 20 feet long, 8 feet wide, and 8 feet tall and was first spotted off Molokai on Saturday. The container was last seen Tuesday off Windward Oahu, and the Department of Land and Natural Resources believes it could wash up this weekend.
There’s always the possibility it could be from the Japan tsunami two years ago, although the DLNR is not saying that.
The sooner they can remove the container, the better. The state doesn’t want the large container to damage reef or introduce invasive species.
If you see it, call the Department of Land and Natural Resources at 587-0400.
