No tsunami threat for Hawaii after strong earthquake north of Japan

The U.S. Geological Survey reported a 6.5-magnitude earthquake near Sea of Okhotsk located north of Japan.

The earthquake was reported at 4:57 a.m. (HST) Friday.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says based on all available data, a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat for Hawaii.
