21-year-old featherweight Max Holloway (7-2, 3-2 UFC) dropped a controversial split-decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28) undercard UFC 160 match against Dennis Bermudez (11-3, 4-1 UFC) Saturday afternoon in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Waianae native maintained striking superiority throughout the fight, winning round one and dazing Bermudez with several spin kicks.
Bermudez, a collegiate wrestler, finally took Holloway to the ground at the end of the third and final round, giving himself a narrow victory.
Later in the card, Kailua-Kona native K.J. Noons (11-7, 0-1 UFC) fell by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-26) to Donald Cerrone (20-5, 7-2 UFC). The fight was Noons’ UFC debut, after spending the majority of his career with EliteXC and Strikeforce.
