A new community college will soon be going up on the Big Island.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held this afternoon for Hawaii Community College at Palamanui.
It’ll be the 11th campus for the University of Hawaii and it is being built on a site near the Kona airport.
The college programs will begin with a two-year course schedule.
“But it will also serve to deliver the great programs from UH-Hilo, from Manoa, from UH-West Oahu, to the Kona residents. So it is the entire university present here in West Hawaii,” University of Hawaii Vice President for Community Colleges John Morton said.
The new school is scheduled to be open by 2015.
