It’s a voyage they’ve spent months preparing for, getting mentally, physically and spiritually ready.

A crew of students, educators, and cultural leaders will board the Hokulea and Hikianalia for a worldwide voyage.

“This is global the need for us to come together as humanity is crucial now this voyage is going to go to all cultures in the world,” master navigator Nainoa Thompson said.

A voyage where crew members will learn so many skills.

“We’re going to go to places with respect, we’re going to go to places with humility, we’re going to go to places to learn. In the voyage bringing young people to make connections around the world with each other,” Thompson said.

They say this voyage will be like no other, as modern technology will be used to share their stories and experiences.

“We’re going to be able to Skype on the canoe and we’re also going to be able to send stills and edit video segments as well as raw video. As we go even in deep-sea we’ll be able to post pictures, post blogs,” Naalehu said.

On board, they will also learn to protect the ocean while knowing its strengths.

“We’re being taught to train for the moment at sea with the worst conditions. We’re teaming with local lifeguards from the west side and doing our own trainings with gyms around town,” a crew member said.

It will be an experience they will never forget.

“These canoes are just going to sew a lei around the world and that will allow anyone to be involved in the voyage,” Jenna said.
