‘Iolani graduate and Arizona AAA affiliate First baseman Kila Ka’aihue was released by the Reno Aces today, after he exercised an out in his contract.
The contract allowed Kila to leave the team and become a free agent if he was not playing in the Major Leagues by June 1st.
Ka’aihue was leading the Pacific Coast League with 16 home runs and 50 RBI. He was batting .313 in 53 games this season, with nine doubles and 38 runs scored. The phenomonal start to his 12th Minor League season was road-blocked by Arizona having one of the best youngFirst Baseman in all of baseball in Paul Goldschmidt. Through 53 games “Goldy” is batting .330 with 12 homeruns and 41 RBI.
Ka’aihue will try to sign with another team that gives him a better shot to reach the major leagues.
