A beautiful smile, a kind heart and a world traveler is how Brittany’s parents described her.
“I’m numb I feel like I feel like it’s a dream and when I go to sleep I’m going to wake up and it’s not going to real,” Brittany-Jane’s mother, Julie Spahn Royal said.
Tuesday, Hawaii Island police found Brittany’s body in waters off Kalapana.
Police say she had been strangled with a fishing line.
It was a tattoo that helped identify her.
“That there was a report on the news that a girl had been found by a fishing line and they described her tattoo and that’s when I knew it was her, Brittany’s mother, Julie Spahn Royal said.
Friday, police reported a missing man from Alaska, Boaz Johnson could be connected to Brittany’s murder and was wanted for questioning.
He has not been found.
Brittany’s mom, dad and younger brother, Schuyler are on Hawaii island trying to piece together what happened.
“I can only speak for myself but for myself I’m just putting one foot in front of the other and I’m just doing what I need to do the next indicated step of what I need to do to get through it,” Julie said.
Julie said Brittany moved to Hawaii island in January after visiting and falling in love with the island.
“She actually had told me and her brothers and everyone that she was planning on kind of setting roots here which she hadn’t said in a while so it was kind of nice to hear,” Julie said.
Brittany’s parents and brother, Schuyler are on Hawaii island and hope to bring her remains back home to California.
“There’s some really bad memories here but there’s a whole lot of really kind people here that’s been so nice to us and we got to see where Brittany was living and we got to see the beauty that attracted her to the island. We want to come back one day because the people and the place is special to us now ,” Brittany’s father, Ted Royal said.
Brittany Jane Royal leaves behind her Mom, Dad, and two younger brothers, Schuyler and Zack.
Hawaii County Police are not considering the missing man Boaz Johnson a suspect in this case.
