Kauai traffic crashes result in 1 arrest, 1 hit-and-run

County of Kauai

Kauai police say the two traffic collisions occurred on Sunday night on Kuamoo Road in Kapaa resulted in two damaged utility poles, one arrest and one hit-and-run.

Police are now asking the public for more information.

The first incident occurred at about 6:30 p.m. when a motorcyclist struck a utility pole while heading east of Kuamoo Road, near the Ohelo Road junction.

The 27-year-old driver of the vehicle, Brennan Herbon of Kapaa, was transported to Wilcox Hospital and subsequently cited for Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence of an Intoxicant (OVUII). His current condition is unknown.

The second crash occurred shortly before 8 p.m. when a vehicle struck a utility pole fronting 6540 Kuamoo Rd.

The collision caused the utility pole to fall on the roadway, blocking the entire eastbound lane and a portion of the west-bound lane.

The vehicle, described as a white Jeep Cherokee SUV, left the scene before officers arrived and police have not yet located the car or driver.

They believe the SUV sustained major front-end damage.

Anyone with information on this incident or the vehicle in question is asked to call police at (808) 241-1711. Anonymous tipsters can call CrimeStoppers at (808) 241-1887.

Kuamoo Road was closed in both directions for several hours while utility crews repaired the damaged pole and restored power to the surrounding area.
