After 23 years, the Honolulu Weekly is shutting down.
According to publisher Laurie Carlson, the paper could not maintain revenue.
In recent months, Carlson said her staff worked hard to bring in more advertising revenue but yielded minimal success.
Carlson chose to close down now while there is still money to meet debts and obligations.
She thought of switching the paper to an electronic, online publication to eliminate the weekly printing bill but they still wouldn’t meet its budget.
A few years ago, Carlson tried to sell the paper hoping a worthy organization would step in to save the publication, but no one did.
