It’s been one week since the mother of pop star Bruno Mars passed away after having a brain aneurysm.
Tonight, former co-workers and customers gathered to celebrate the life of Bernadette Hernandez known to many as “Bernie.”
She used to work Eight Fat Fat Eight, a popular bar on Beretania Street, just past Keeaumoku.
“I think we’re doing what she would’ve wanted. We’re all gathered here doing what she loved, singing, drinking, and having a good time all together,” said her friend Gordon Yang. “My own singing ability got better just because I was with her and her good friends who are also phenomenal singing performers.”
Bruno Mars and his sisters also credit their mom and dad with having a huge impact on their musical lives.
Bernie passed away at the Queen’s Medical Center last weekend. She was only 55-years-old.
