This afternoon, 2009 University of Hawai’i All-WAC first-teamer Vinnie Catricala was traded from the Seattle Mariners to the Oakland Athletics.

In return for dealing their 2011 minor league player of the year, the M’s will receive undisclosed cash amount or a player to be named later.

Catricala had spent his entire 4-year minor league career with the Mariners after being selected in the 10th round of the 2009 MLB draft.

After starting his first season on the 40-man major league roster, Catricala was designated for assignment last week, prompting the Mariners to trade or place the 6’2″ 220 lb. utility man on waivers.

Vinnie will become a member of the A’s 40-man roster, pending a physical after he reports to Double-A Midland tomorrow.

The Sacramento, CA native joins fellow former Rainbow, catcher David Freitas, with the RockHounds.
