Maui telescope gets upgraded

Maui telescope

A new telescope on Maui is ready to explore the universe.

The 1.8-meter Pan-STARRS 2 telescope sits on top of Haleakala.

The telescope’s mechanical and electrical systems were upgraded, and the steel and framework were replaced.

The new telescope will start operating in July.

One of its main jobs is to search for asteroids.

It will be working alongside the original Pan-STARRS 1 telescope.
