Health officials confirm another case of syphilis on the Big Island

Department of Health

The state Department of Health has confirmed another case of syphilis on the Big Island, bringing the total number of cases to six for 2013.

Health officials say the latest case is not related to the five other cases recently reported.

Last week, the DOH said there was a possible outbreak in West Hawaii.

Although the recent case is not linked to the others, the DOH says the Big Island has an unusually high number of syphilis reports.
