Two hikers are safe after spending the night in a forest on the Big Island.
According to the Hawaii Fire Department, a 59-year-old man and a 58-year-old woman wandered off main trail at the Puu Makaula National Area Reserve on Thursday.
The couple said they could not find their way out after dark due to the thick rain forest.
Firefighters resumed their search at 5:30 a.m. Friday and were able to make contact with the couple.
Crews located the couple under a thick forest canopy.No injuries were reported.
