It was the first time a hearing was held on the weekend to allow residents who work during the week to attend.
However, some residents were curious to know if their concerns would be heard since the full board was not present.
“If you see it’s the director and the staff that’s here, not the board, so the decision makers aren’t here to listen to these real community concerns,” One Waterfront Tower resident Sharon Moriwaki said.
“I can only say that and give assurance that we are accountable to the law. We’re accountable to the rules that are in place and we’re accountable to the criteria in those rules,” Hawaii Community Development Authority executive director Anthony Ching said.
Ching assured residents that their concerns will be submitted to the board.
He says the meeting was informal and was scheduled on too short of a notice for the entire board to be present.
The second meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 24, at 5:30 p.m. and will also take place at the HCDA at 461 Cooke Street.
