Maui firefighters were called to Humupea Place in Kihei a little before 1:45 p.m. Sunday.
According to officials, the fire started somewhere in the back of the house.
The fire was under control within two hours.
A portion of Piilani Highway was closed between Kaiwahine Street and Moi while crews put out the fire.
“The firemen brought a ladder truck which they finally had to use to get above the fire. With the water cannon, they were able to shoot down into the roof to shoot the fire out,” Kihei resident James Loux said.
No one was injured from this incident.
The Red Cross is helping out the two adults and two children who were living in the house.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
