An elderly hiker who died after falling off the Mariner’s Ridge Trail in East Oahu on Sunday has been identified.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as 70-year-old Paul Yoon of Honolulu. They say he died of cranial and cervical spine injuries due to a fall from a hike.
Yoon was hiking with the Honolulu Korean Hikers Club.
Witnesses say after reaching the top, the group went to another vantage point located off the beaten path.
Officials say Yoon fell in an area that was hard to reach.
By the time Honolulu firefighters got to Yoon, he wasn’t breathing and he didn’t have a pulse.
He was pronounced dead after being airlifted out.
