The leader of Hawaii’s Catholic Church Bishop Larry Silva was given a huge honor Tuesday evening.
He is now an Honorary Alii Knight Companion, 7th degree, in the Royal Order of Kamehameha I.
Bishop Silva was given the title for his aloha and sensitivity of the Hawaiian culture, and for the people who call Hawaii home.
“This is a beautiful honor to me, but in honoring me I think they honored really the church of Hawaii, the people who served the poor after the example of Father Damien and Mother Marianne and those who depend on us so much for the aloha, the love, that God has put into our hearts that we need to pour onto others,” Silva said.
An invitation to the Royal Order of Kamehameha I means Bishop Silva has gained the respect of everyone in the group.
