A man who confessed to murdering a visitor in a Waikiki hotel room in July 1996 learned his fate on Wednesday.
Judge Perkins found Jason Lee McCormick guilty of murder in the second degree for killing Dr. Robert Henderson.
Officials say Henderson was found four days after he was murdered. They say his neck was broken and his nude body had writing on it.
The murder became a cold case until McCormick called police to confess to the crime in 2008.
McCormick faces life in prison with the possibility of parole and will be sentenced in September.
Henderson was the Director for the Linguistics Department at the University of Pittsburgh and was on Oahu for a seminar.
