Big Island man charged with attempted murder in spear gun incident

A Big Island man was charged Thursday night after police say he shot a spear gun at a Puna man.

George Robert Curnutt, 49, was charged with attempted murder in the second degree.

Curnutt is accused of shooting a spear gun at a 20-year-old man in the Leilani Estates subdivision on Tuesday night. The victim was taken to the Hilo Medical Center in critical condition.

According to police, a 61-year-old woman was also hurt in the confrontation. She was taken to the Hilo Medical Center and was later released.

Curnutt is being held at the Hilo Police cellblock on $500,000 bail.
