Hundreds submit artwork to be displayed at Honolulu’s rail stations

Rail transit

The $5 million public art program will highlight work created by artists who have a strong understanding of and affinity for Hawaii’s history and culture.

The art will be displayed at the 21 stations along the rail route and at the train control center in Waipahu.

Station artwork opportunities will range from paving and floor designs to wall murals, architectural fencing, to glass work and integrated sculptural elements.

The submittals will be reviewed by a transit art committee.

Those who qualify will be placed on a pre-qualified artist registry and compete for one of about 25 art opportunities at the various stations.
