The man accused of stealing a dump truck and leading police on a chase through Waikiki has been charged.

Allen Pitts, 43, was charged with unauthorized control of propelled vehicle and criminal property damage.

Witnesses say they saw police cars chasing the truck down Kalakaua Avenue near the Waikiki Aquarium shortly before midnight Saturday.

After police tried to stop the truck several times, Pitts made a run for the water.

He was arrested an hour-and-a-half later at Sans Souci Beach.

Pitts remains in police custody on $75,000 bail.
