Regents discuss a task force for UH president search

Board of Regents

The University of Hawaii presidential search committee met on Tuesday to tackle some key issues in finding Mary Rita Cooke Greenwood’s replacement.

First on its agenda was addressing the criteria for next UH president. A first draft list included having Hawaii ties and strong management skills.

The selection committee also debated how to select a search firm to gather potential candidates for the president’s job.

“We are looking for that local link, but that local person may not be here,” UH Board of Regents chair John Holzman said. “They may be living on the mainland so we were going back and forth on the pros and cons of a national search firm or a local search firm.”

As for who’s going to ultimately pick the next president, the committee says the UH Board of Regents should ensure the task group includes a student and faculty representative, a member of the UH foundation, and regents.
