Kauai native Kirby Yates (Durham Bulls/Tampa Bay Rays) was named to the Triple-A All-Star game’s International League roster Wednesday.
Little brother of former Major Leaguer Tyler Yates has been dominant in 2013.
Yates owns the lowest ERA among all IL All-Stars at 1.13, having struck out a mind-boggling 62 batters in just 39.2 innings, while recording 9 saves.
Originally signed by the Rays in 2009 as a non-drafted free agent, the 26 year old has quickly worked his way up the ladder, and is considered one of the best pitching prospects in the Rays organization.
The Triple-A All-Star game will be held on July 17th in Reno and will be televised on the MLB Network.
