A man who was hit by a pickup truck on the Pali Highway late Saturday night has died, according to the Honolulu Police Department.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim as 24-year-old Levy Rivera. His last known address was listed as Marine Corps Base Hawaii.
Police say the driver of the pickup truck was heading in the Kailua-bound direction at about 10:40 p.m. when he saw a man run onto the road prior to the tunnel.
“He tried to swerve and avoid the male, but struck the male with the front of his vehicle. the male in his early 20s was rushed to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition,” HPD Lt. Robert Towne said. “We later learned there was another car that this male apparently jumped out of, went running across the street and may have been in a prior argument with occupants of that vehicle. The occupants of that vehicle followed the ambulance and headed towards the Queen’s hospital.”
The driver of the truck, an adult male, was not injured. Police do not believe he was speeding or driving under the influence of an intoxicant.
The medical examiner has not released the cause of death.
