A man in his mid-30s was rushed to the hospital after he apparently struck his head on the reef.
The incident happened shortly before 12:30 p.m. Friday near the surf spot known as “Kaiser Bowls” in Waikiki.
According to Honolulu Emergency Service Department spokeswoman Shayne Enright, a witness said the man was surfing about 100 yards off shore when he hit his head on the reef.
Other surfers along with lifeguards pulled the surfer to shore.
Paramedics transported the victim to the Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition.
