Police identify woman who died in Hilo traffic accident

Big Island police have identified the 61-year-old woman who died after a traffic accident on Tuesday.

Police identified the victim as Roslyn Rushing of Hilo.

The accident happened at about 9 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Kamehameha Avenue and Kalakaua Street in downtown Hilo.

According to police, the woman was crossing Kamehameha Avenue just south of Kalakaua Street from the mauka to makai direction when she was struck by a 1998 Honda four-door sedan traveling south.

Fire Department crews took the pedestrian to the Hilo Medical Center, where she later died.

Police say the driver of the vehicle, a 35-year-old woman, and her passengers were not injured.

According to police, the Rushing was not in a marked crosswalk.
